Used cars sold by a Queensland licensed motor dealer carry a statutory warranty unless they are exempt (for example motorcycles, caravans and commercial vehicles). It runs 3 months or 5,000km for most cars, and 1 month or 1,000km for cars that are 160,000km or more, or more than 10 years old. Whichever comes first. For most used cars sold by a licensed dealer, Queensland law gives a one-day cooling-off period after you sign. Cancelling in that time can cost you up to $100. The Form 12 we give you before you sign sets out exactly how it works for the car you're buying.
